Types of Appointments
What Type of Appointment Do You Need?
Most new patients begin with a consultation. During this visit, our team reviews your medical and dental history, examines the area of concern, takes any needed imaging, and explains the recommended treatment, anesthesia options, and cost.
In some cases, treatment can be completed on the same day as the consultation. This depends on the procedure, the anesthesia plan, your medical history, and scheduling availability. If you would like to be considered for same-day treatment, please let our team know when you call.
Common appointment types include:
- New patient consultation
- Surgical appointment (local anesthesia or IV sedation)
- Post-operative follow-up visit
- Second opinion or specialist evaluation
- Emergency or urgent care visit
Referrals
Do I Need a Referral?
Many patients are referred by their dentist, orthodontist, physician, or another provider. A referral is helpful but is not required for every appointment. If you were referred, please bring the referral slip and any X-rays or imaging your provider sent with you, or ask your provider to send them to our office before your visit.
If you are unsure whether you need a referral, call our office and our team will help you determine the next step.
What to Bring
What to Bring to Your First Visit
To help your first appointment run smoothly, please bring the following:
- Completed Patient Registration Form (or arrive 15 minutes early to complete it in the office)
- Referral slip and any X-rays or imaging from your dentist or physician
- A list of all current medications, including dosages
- Dental and medical insurance cards
- Photo identification
- Any questions you have about treatment, anesthesia, or cost
Patients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Scheduling Surgery
Scheduling Your Surgical Appointment
Once treatment is recommended, our team will help you schedule your surgery and review everything you need to know beforehand. If your procedure involves IV sedation, you will receive specific instructions about eating and drinking, medications, clothing, and arranging a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you afterward.
Please review our Before Surgery instructions carefully before your appointment. Following these instructions helps keep your procedure safe and on schedule.
Appointment Policies
Cancellations & Rescheduling
We do our best to stay on schedule and respect your time. Because oral surgery procedures vary in complexity and emergency cases may arise, occasional delays can occur. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please contact our office at least 48 hours in advance so that the time can be offered to another patient. Please call 760-837-1515 to make any changes to your appointment.
Emergencies
Emergency & After-Hours Care
If you have severe pain, swelling, dental trauma, or another urgent concern during office hours, call 760-837-1515 and we will make every effort to see you the same day.
If you are an existing patient with an urgent concern after hours, call our office number and follow the instructions provided to reach the on-call surgeon.
For life-threatening emergencies such as difficulty breathing, uncontrolled bleeding, or loss of consciousness, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
